Sober Living Home

K’ima:w Behavioral Health officially opened a men’s Sober Living Home in Hoopa on April 18 with a community-wide ribbon cutting and open house.  The Sober Living Home is designed as a residential facility to help men transition from rehab to mainstream society.  The home can accommodate 6 residents along with a house manager.  The residents share household chores including cooking and cleaning.  A case manager from Behavioral Health works closely with each resident to shepherd them in their transitional journey.

“This has been in the works for a couple of years,” commented Boyd Ferris, Behavioral Health Director.  “We are pleased to have this service in the community and look forward to opening a women’s home in the near future.”

A special thanks to our employee Shoshoni Gensaw who organized the event.  Guests included K’ima:w board members Marilyn Powell, Karen Kyle, Leslie Hunt and K’ima:w Chairwoman Marcellene Norton, Tribal Council members Diana Ferris, Oscar Billings and Vice Chair Ed Guyer helping to cut the ribbon.  Other community organizations who attended were Housing Authority and Child and Family Services.  There were booths from Behavioral Health, College of the Redwoods, and Hupa Family Resources.
